Following the 2008 financial crisis, data gaps and information needs have been identified, particularly concerning official statistics on prices, rents, and yields for commercial real estate.

In response to these needs, international and national organisations have been working to develop and promote the production of comparable non-financial indicators for the commercial real estate market.
Interest in the development and availability of these indicators remains high due to their scarcity worldwide. Without access to comprehensive indicators, assessing potential risks associated with fluctuations in the value of commercial real estate becomes challenging.

The proposed session will be chaired by Eurostat, which is engaged in the development of official statistics for the commercial real estate market within the European Union. It will feature papers and presentations from experts from other international organizations (IMF, BIS), national statistical institutes (Finland, the Netherlands) and from one national central bank (Bundesbank). The European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), one of the users of commercial real estate official statistics, will contribute as a discussant.

This session offers statisticians, researchers, users, and all those interested in commercial real estate indicators the opportunity to present, discuss, and assess the latest developments in this emerging area of official statistics production.
