An archipelago situated right at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, the Maltese Islands are a country immersed in history, culture and art. Interesting megalithic structures dating thousands of years are testimony to a complex prehistory which was then followed by a succession of colonizers, all of which left a mark on cuisine, language and architecture. The capital city Valletta and the old medieval centre of Mdina, along with the Cottonera area and various other towns and villages, offer the opportunity to visitors to explore enchanting views, museums and eateries. The Maltese people are very hospitable and although islanders have their own language, Maltese, almost everyone is conversant in English.

Valletta, the capital city of Malta, was created by the Knights of the Order of St John in the 16th Century. Since its inception, the city became the main administrative and commercial centre of the Maltese Islands. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a walk through the streets of Valletta allows one to appreciate the beautiful Baroque facades and the numerous monuments.

Sister island Gozo is also an extremely pleasant landscape to visit. A ferry service connects Malta and Gozo. The journey lasts c. 20 minutes. Ferries leave from Cirkewwa in Malta and Mgarr Harbour in Gozo. More info on schedules and fares can be found here.
