Conference

Theme

National Statistical Offices (NSOs) provide official statistics as a public good that all kinds of users build on for various decision-making processes. However, in the rapidly evolving, data-rich ecosystems, where emerging participants, data sources, and technologies are transforming information systems, NSOs are to partner up with citizens and other stakeholders to keep up with innovations and information demands.

Thus, in order to improve decision-making for all, NSOs must leverage their relationship with citizens and data users to better navigate data production and governance challenges, foster capacity development, and promote statistical literacy. By doing so, it will help to develop a new social contract around data based on value generation and trust.

It is in this context that the theme “Improving Decision-Making for All” is brought forward. The 2024 IAOS Mexico Conference aims to provide an environment where interested people and institutions can examine said dilemmas and, together, come up with ideas for producing official statistics that contribute to improving decision-making at every level, from policymakers to citizens.
