Abstract

Corruption affects social and economic performance around the world. According to UNODC, this phenomenon attacks the foundation of democratic institutions by distorting electoral processes, perverting the rule of law and creating bureaucratic quagmires whose only reason for existing is the soliciting of bribes. This session will show data and statistics on corruption in different contexts and social consequences from such phenomena. The panel will discuss about the relevance of having high quality data on this social problem and the value of data for public policy making considering global, regional, and local perspectives.
