Official Statistics and Merging Domains: How World Bank Funded Regional Helped Strategize in Ssa?

Proposal Description

Since 2016, the World Bank is providing more and more funding and technical assistance to official statistics in Sub-Saharan Africa. Actually, the total number of regional projects in west and central Africa region is 3, totalizing around 1 billion and 2 hundreds million USD.
The Harmonizing and Improving statistics that aim at producing quality and harmonized core socioeconomic statistics and indicators in the region and promoting large dissemination and free access to micro data is revolutionizing the statistical production in the region with a focus on emerging domains in order to modernize the statistical infrastructure in the participating countries. With these projects, National Statistics Offices are now focusing on fields of geospatial statistics, gender statistics, big data, using Artificial Intelligence other technological innovation to produce quality and accurate data. For instance, countries are using CAPI tools to realize for the first time digitalized censuses (Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, …) or to set up innovation technology centers (Call center, Calculus center or Cartography center in Cote d’Ivoire).
The goal of this IPS is to share the experience from the participating countries and discuss lessons learned and the way forward. A participative discussion is expected from attendees from both developed and developing practitioner to enhance the impact of these projects for the respective countries.
