Abstract
The One-Stop-Shop for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Official Statistics (AIML4OS) is an ESSnet project involving 16 countries which commenced in April 2024. The overall aim of this four-year project is to develop knowledge and support implementation of AI/ML-based solutions for the production of official statistics. It will provide a single-entry point for ESS staff to access a comprehensive suite of resources, guidelines, methodologies and use cases. The project is developed through 13 workpackages. Six of these are supporting implementation, with a focus on standards, frameworks, ecosystem analysis, knowledge sharing, and an AI/ML testing environment for experimentation and development. The remaining seven workpackages are use cases that demonstrate the potential of AI and ML in impactful application areas for official statistics, including editing, imputation, synthetic data, LLMs, earth observation data, supply chain networks and text classification. The project also aims to build communities around the various technologies and production areas which will share knowledge and collaborate on innovative solutions. This presentation will outline the status and achievements of the project after its first 18 months, and describe the goals and challenges that lie ahead.
