Abstract
The increasing demand for information to assess progress in climate risk management and the efforts to channel financial resources towards a more sustainable economy have heightened statistical requirements within the financial sector. Statistical manuals reflect this demand by requesting new details from compilers, such as breakdowns of green loans. While significant statistical advances have been made in business financing, information on household loans remains limited. This limitation arises from current deficiencies in traditional information sources for identifying green loans to households, particularly in the mortgage sector. This paper aims to contribute by utilizing administrative sources of loans and energy efficiency certificates of properties to provide an initial estimate of the evolution and behavior of this segment in green mortgage lending in Spain.
