Abstract
In today’s data-driven world, privacy concerns loom large over the landscape of data partnerships. This presentation delves into the multifaceted realm of Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs), asserting that understanding PETs solely as a technological fix overlooks its multidimensional nature. Rather, it encompasses a holistic approach that integrates diverse elements such as organisational capacity, collaboration management, and user engagement. By experimenting with and tailoring PETs to specific use cases, statisticians play a pivotal role in navigating the intricate landscape of data partnerships. This presentation also highlights the crucial phases of deploying PET solutions into production, emphasizing the cultural nuances and gaps that must be addressed. Overall, this introductory presentation offers holistic insights into how statisticians can steer data partnerships towards privacy-conscious, ethically sound and trustworthy practices.
