Abstract
Within the United States government, all agencies are expected to abide by an established framework of Federal Data Ethics Tenets. Nested within these tenets is the expectation that agency leadership and staff will also abide by the relevant professional codes of practice germane to their respective professions and disciplines. U.S. statistical agencies, therefore, have an obligation to adhere to recognized guidelines for the ethical practice of statistics in addition to the broader Federal Data Ethics Tenets. This paper will examine the alignment of the American Statistical Association's Ethical Guidelines for Statistical Practice with the Federal Data Ethics Tenets. It will then discuss how these frameworks inform issues relating to indigenous data sovereignty and the use of indigenous data for the production of official statistics.
