Data Collection and Analysis using mobile phones, Egypt case study
Abstract
As mobile phone technology has advanced and penetration has increased around the globe, mobile phones have become an increasingly popular way to collect qualitative data, and can aid in their broad dissemination. They are cheap, reduces costs, more quickly and widely as well. In addition to using mobile phones as a means of data collection, they are also a means of disseminating it; enabling researchers to collect data from remote locations. In addition, Interviews can be conducted by phone, through voice calls or video interviews. This enables researchers to gather qualitative data without needing to meet interviewees in person, making it more convenient for the interviewee and allowing for a higher number of interviews to be conducted.
This study uses descriptive analytical method, and Statistical methods to evaluate of the statistical status of Egypt, based on many studies and reports issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Egypt, and Some of the World Bank reports, The study results showed that the Using Mobile Data Collection methods can be ready for analysis in a short time. And since the data is entered directly into an electronic form that can be exported into a statistical package or information management system, and with the use of Internet technology, also data can be presented automatically in visual forms that track the most important indicators without requiring manual analysis by a statistician.
The study recommends the benefits of mobile technology for data collection, as it contributes to improving the quality of field surveys, as it's cheaper and quicker to access to a better quality of data collection that can be effectively used for low budgets surveys. While data collection via mobile phones may offer particular advantages, this is not to imply that such efforts are not without challenges or difficulties, Some of challenges related to technological change often outpaces the ability of planners and policy makers to respond to these changes, and Digital collection and transmission of data may be carried with it numerous potential risks and challenges related to data security and privacy.
