Managing a changing data ecosystem with new data sources
Abstract
The data ecosystem is being increasingly affected by the emergence of new data sources, reshaping statistical business processes, and statistics quality management. These dynamics involve opportunities for statistical advancement (timeliness, strengthened decision-making, data privacy and integrity, data access and sustainability of data sources) that need to be addressed. To ensure the survival of the Egyptian Statistical Authority in this rapidly changing environment, the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics in Egypt was prepared, which ensures a proper use of alternative data sources to fill data gaps and adherence to the highest quality standards of the resulting statistical products.
Furthermore, this paper will discuss the key influences of the data ecosystem on quality assurance of field surveys. This allows data statistics and machine learning researchers to extract insights and build product features from massive amounts of data. This study also presents a case study of Egypt on how to use this ecosystem to enhance achieving the objectives of both the global SDGs 2030, and Egypt Vision.
