Abstract
This presentation promotes the evaluation of student engagement through the creation of data dashboards and tutorials designed to harness the power of learning analytics available in Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). The presentation has two objectives: describe freely available dashboards with a variety of visualizations and summaries at the module/program level and present tutorials that foster staff data skills with respect to learning analytic data.
The presentation promotes an evidence-based approach to pedagogy and seeks to advance data skills among educators, particularly in disciplines where formal training and experience with this type of data are limited. By providing staff with tools to monitor and evaluate pedagogical design and analyse data to identify trends, we aim to equip educators to discover insights that can enhance the learning experience for students.
We describe dashboards that offer a user-friendly interface to quickly generate insightful visualizations and summaries, enabling staff to gain a deeper understanding of engagement patterns across student cohorts. The accompanying tutorials are designed to bridge the skills gap in data manipulation and extraction, offering staff the flexibility and confidence to utilize learning analytics data effectively.
By enabling educators to leverage learning analytics, the presentation seeks to support high-quality, impactful scholarship and ultimately benefit the learning experience of students.
