Abstract
Leaving the family home and living independently is postponed or does not occur at all. Many people, despite entering adulthood, do not start a family and decide to live with their parents. Such people are called young adults living with parents. The main goal of the study was to obtain the most complete picture of the phenomenon, i.e. to determine the entire population and the socio-economic characteristics of the so-called young adults living with their parents and the spatial diversity of this in Poland.
The work, including the identification and characterization of the population covered by the study, was carried out by using information from selected administrative registers. Thanks to the possibility of integrating registers, full subjectivity of the people affected by the phenomenon was achieved. The data was prepared for the whole of Poland and in territorial breakdowns down to the commune level as of 2022.
Using innovative methods and experience in working with administrative data sources, it was possible to capture the phenomenon on a full scale. This study is therefore an attempt to answer questions about the level and structure this phenomena in Poland, which can be presented using measurable data collected without the direct participation of respondents.
The research method used was data integration at the individual level, which, depending on the needs, was done using a single key (personal ID number) or a combination of several variables together
(in the case of searching for a common address for nesters and their parents, the connection was made after the address variables).
For each person in the study population aged 25 to 34, information on age, gender and place of residence was included. The information was included based on demographic data included in the list of people for experimental work.
The result of the experimental work is the characteristics of Polish young adults living with parents, including demographic issues, economic and educational activity, family situation and disability, including their parents` disabilities.
The presentation will present detailed results and methodology of the study.
