Abstract
Various problems in modern society are emerging as complex issues that go beyond the response capabilities of a single government department. Recently, tasks such as responding to the climate crisis, achieving carbon neutrality, and promoting sustainable development are not policies that can be managed by one ministry alone. Consequently, there is an urgent need for high-quality statistical data sharing and linkage systems between government ministries and a data-based integrated approach, yet cooperation is challenging due to various obstacles. This study aims to address these issues and explore government strategies for statistical governance to effectively solve social problems. Furthermore, we propose formulating cooperation strategies between ministries by considering the interconnection of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators, which are being jointly addressed by the international community. SDG indicators are expected to make significant contributions by identifying connections between each ministry’s policies and programs and presenting integrated solutions. Through this study, we propose an innovative statistical governance model that is necessary for the National Statistical Office to collaborate with various government ministries to effectively achieve the SDGs, and suggest the role of the National Statistical Office and how to manage SDG indicators.
