Abstract

Deliberate spatial planning supports harmonious and sustainable development of societies. It should take into consideration multiple factors. However, many issues concerning sub-national levels are hard to grasp with use of traditional data sources.

Thanks to the application of non-traditional data and methods, Statistics Poland has succeeded in providing more disaggregated data for regional and local authorities. Indicators created as experimental statistics are presented in a user-friendly website accompanied with interactive visualizations and rich context information. The data can serve as a tool for decision makers at lower territorial levels to assess and act on creating better life in better localities.

The session aims to present current challenges around data at spatial levels and suggest ideas for improving statistical information that contributes decision making. Newest experience from Statistics Poland and lessons learned will be provided as an example of enhancing communication with users.
