Abstract

Reliable property price indexes and other indicators of real estate markets are critical ingredients for policymakers to assess the state of the real estate market and its potential impact on macroeconomic and financial stability. Despite the growing importance of reliable property price indexes and associated indicators, these indexes—particularly commercial property price indexes—continue to be under development with further work needed to better understand potential data sources and measurement approaches. This presentation describes some of the opportunities and challenges associated with the measurement of commercial property price indexes and outlines considerations for a way forward.
