Abstract

Standards and Conformity assessment are key instruments to ensure trust in emerging technology. The Standards Council of Canada is playing a key role on the international stage to lead and influence standardization in key sectors including AI, Data, Quantum, Cybersecurity. While traditional standardization may appear to struggle to keep up with emerging technology, SCC and other standardization bodies are revolutionizing the standardization ecosystem to respond to disruptive technologies that could threaten the public, or leave Canada economically behind. An overview of SCC’s role in supporting Canada’s progressive trade agenda and in the implementation of Canada’s Digital Charter will explore the central role standardization plays in data and analytics and its implications of EDTs.
