Abstract

In this presentation we will discuss the role of a National Statistical Society (NSS) as one of the key players in the ecosystem of stakeholders around the official statistics system. We will give an overview of the different types of activities an NSS can take on, and how these activities interact with the work of a National Statistical Institute (NSI). We will give some examples of how the NSS can play the role of a ‘critical friend’ of official statistics and how this can benefit both the NSS and the NSI – and can ultimately deliver statistics for the public good.
