Abstract
In the WSC convincing the audience of the power of data to gain insights that help decision making is generally an easy sell. However by sharing how illiterate farmers are using data in their decision making this talk aims to challenge the audience to think differently about who could and should be consuming the data we produce.
In a WSC audience it is also uncontroversial to build a case that statistical literacy is widely needed and more effort should be put in at multiple levels. However by sharing experiences related to building data scientists statistical literacy, this talk again aims to challenge the audience to think more deeply about our role and responsibility as statisticians.
