Common language in information: GSIM and CSDA in action

Abstract
Information, both data and metadata, is the “bread and butter” of statistical production. Consequently, the ModernStats process and activity models, i.e. GSBPM and GAMSO, need to deal with information entities at every step. The Generic Statistical Information Model, GSIM, is a framework developed precisely to describe those information entities in a standardized way.
More recently, CSDA, the Common Statistical Data Architecture, added the notion of information capabilities to the conceptual models landscape. Information capabilities provide a powerful abstraction to describe how information is being produced, maintained and used in terms of common methods, processes, standards, IT systems and people skills. CSDA facilitates not only business discussions but also the implementation of modular, machine-actionable, data solutions.
The greatest value of these models lies not just in their definition but in their integration as implementing these models together will open up new ideas for further standardisation and developments in the NSOs, ultimately leading to higher process quality. In that direction, a mapping between GSIM and GSBPM was established describing the inputs and outputs of GSBPM sub-processes in terms of GSIM classes. Further integration at the conceptual level is enabled by the Core Ontology for Official Statistics (COOS).
